The World Ozone Congress, Verona, Italy, March 11-13, 1999

My wife and I attended the World ozone Congress in Verona Italy, from March 11 - 13, 1999. This was a bigger conference than the one in Cuba in March 1997, with about 300 persons in attendance, most of them doctors.

The Conference was held in the Glaxo Wellcome Auditorium, which I thought was very ironic, since they are makers of both amyl nitrate poppers and AZT - sort of entering the lion's den, as it were. Be that as it may, the facility was first class.

The main room was a large theatre with plush red seats, a flip down writing desk, and a flip up handle for audio plug in for translation on every seat - very plush. However, the auxiliary room was just a room with a projector and no translation facilities. All presentations there were in Italian, so we will have to wait for the Proceedings to be published to know what was said. The Proceedings should have been ready for us to pick up, but they weren't, and we are still waiting for them to arrive by mail.

Topics covered included ozone therapy and its effects on :

- biological, toxicological and clinical aspects

- erythrocyte biochemical properties

- arterial occlusive disease

- hemoglobin oxygen affinity

- phlebopathic ulcus

- lymphocytes and DNA

- microcirculation

- diabetes

- ulcers

- lesions

- penile fibrosis

- erectile dysfunction

- cancer

- badly-healing wounds

- cosmetology

- pain

- applications with ozonated oil

- infections of all types

- HIV

- sports

- herniated discs

- spinal degeneration

- macular degeneration

- central nervous system

- dementia

- forensics

- others listed only in Italian

For us, the two highlights were Saturday's final presentations :

- a paper presented by Prof. Bocci showing that the plastic bags used for autohemotherapy shed up to 10,000 particles of plastic when ozone comes into contact with them. Prof. Bocci proposed that all autohemotherapy be done only with glass flasks, as it was done before the plastic bags came on the scene. He was engaged in a heated debate by some of the attendees who, it seemed, did not want to change back to the old glass flasks, for reasons of cost, it appeared.

- a paper presented by Dr. Borelli on the use of our steam sauna for ozone application. The results showed that, basically, the effects were quite similar to that produced by other ozone protocols, with increases in the oxygen content of the blood and stimulation of interleukin production (an immune system marker). In summary, the suggestion was made that this might be an effective biological response modifier in vascular diseases, chronic viral diseases and metastatic cancer. Another vigorous discussion broke out after this paper was presented, from basically the same old guard that were opposed, it seemed, to any changes in the status quo. Prof. Bocci joined in with a vigorous defense of new approaches and the necessity of keeping an open mind, and some of the attendees agreed. The exchanges lasted for some time, with considerable acrimony, until finally the discussion was ended.

The next day we took the train to Venice and spent a lovely day walking in the sunshine in the grand old city of merchants, visiting the glass works and walking in St. Mark's Square and along the canals. Great city, in the middle of a lake, fabulous architecture, sculpture, paintings and lots of tourists. We had a spaghetti and bread and wine lunch at a canal-side bistro and watched the crowds. It was like a mini Mardi Gras. Definitely recommended!

Best of Health!
