Dear Stephen,

The unsaturated fats found in linolenic (Omega-3) and linoleic (Omega-6) essential fatty acids (in flax seed oil) are vital for the transport of oxygen into the cellular membrane. This process allows for the production of energy (ATP) in the cell by oxidation and also the detoxification of the cell, by removal of wastes. (Catabolism)

The other half of the equation (Anabolism) uses hydrogen and sulfur to build a bridge between fats and proteins. Hydrogen boosts up its energy level by absorbing photons and after the transfer of electrons on the protein side, releases them. The sulphur containing proteins found in cell membranes are a vitally important substance in this reaction. Low fat cottage cheese is a good source of these sulfur containing proteins. Another source would be raw eggs. A further source would be MSM (methyl sufonyl methane), which is made from DMSO (dimethyl sulfoxide), a byproduct of the pulp industry.

The two EFAs are the essential ingredients in many vital body functions: 1) they are used to form prostaglandins, which play a major role in inflammatory response and regulation of blood pressure by the kidneys and blood flow 2) they affect the enzyme activity of the brain 3) they affect the clotting mechanism of the blood 4) they are involved in repair of the the inside of the blood vessel walls 5) they help prevent the aggregation of plaque on the artery walls 6) they are involved in immune defense, and protect against auto-immune diseases 7) they are found in large amounts in sperm, and in the retina of the eye

Therefore they are used therapeutically in a wide range of diseases : cancer, arteriosclerosis, stoke, heart attack, arrhythmia, liver problems, bronchial spasm, ulcers, arthritis, eczema, psoriasis, enlarged prostate, rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, scleroderma, etc.

IP6 is a concentratrion of the B vitamin inositol. Inositol is involved in metabolism of fats and cholesterol, brain cell nutrition and prevention of atherosclerosis. Research over the last 12 years has shown that it also inhibits cancer tumor growth, and even causes cancerous cells to revert back to normal oxidation processes. To do that it must be acting to repair DNA. If so, it would be acting like other B vitamins that are also involved in DNA synthesis and repair, B6, B8, B9, and B12. IP6 also can prevent cancer by its action.

In fact, all the B vitamins are vitally important in maintenance of a healthy, oxygen enriched cell. Here is an excerpt from my book, "The Owner's Manual for the Human Body" :

- Vitamin B1 (thiamine) : Metabolism of carbohydrates into sugar; blood building; circulation; production of hydrochloric acid; muscle tone; nervous system; mental attitude; stabilizes appetite; fertility; cell respiration; anticancer. Sources : Brewer's yeast, blackstrap molasses, brown rice, sunflower seeds, brazil nuts, eggs, wheat germ, beef liver, meat, poultry, fish, soybeans, potatoes.

- Vitamin B2 (riboflavin) : Cell respiration; metabolism; red blood cell formation; breakdown of protein, fats, carbohydrates; vision; conversion of tryptophan to niacin; resistance to stress Sources : Brewer's yeast, eggs, beef liver, blackstrap molasses, brussels sprouts, almonds, whole grains, sunflower seeds, legumes, cheese, fish

- Vitamin B3 (niacin) : Circulation; hydrochloric acid production; reduces cholesterol; metabolism of protein, fats, carbohydrates; sex hormone production; cell respiration; brain function and memory; histamines; nerves Sources : Brewer's yeast, seafood, liver, meat, milk, chicken, rhubarb, sunflower seeds, peanuts, wheat germ.

- Vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid) : Cellular metabolism; production of red blood cells; breakdown of cholesterol; metabolism of carbohydrates, fats and proteins; energy production; vitamin utilization; digestive tract; adrenals; lungs Sources : Brewer's yeast, legumes, broccoli, cabbage, eggs, beef liver, salmon, wheat germ, whole grains, oranges.

- Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) : Metabolism of carbohydrates, fat and protein; hydrochloric acid production; sodium/potassium balance; (with magnesium) production of properdin (destroys bacteria and viruses in the blood); red blood cell production; antibody production; RNA/DNA action; conversion of glycogen to glucose; hormone production; diuretic. Sources : Brewer's yeast, green leafy vegetables, whole grains, beef liver, meat, brown rice, prunes, peas, bananas, blackstrap molasses, wheat germ, legumes.

- Vitamin B8 (biotin) : Metabolism; production of enzymes; pH balance; cell growth; fatty acid production; B vitamin utilization; nucleic acid formation; glycogen formation; skin, nerves, bone marrow, gonads. Sources : Eggs, soybeans, beef liver, legumes, brewer's yeast, whole grains, sardines.

- Vitamin B9 (folic acid) : Appetite; growth; hydrochloric acid production; red blood cell production; protein metabolism, DNA & RNA production; amino acid synthesis and utilization (needs intrinsic factor) Sources : Soy flour, brewer's yeast, wheat germ, dates, canned tuna, spinach, beets, milk, cheese, kidney beans, cabbage, peas, beef liver, salmon, whole grains, asparagus

- Vitamin B12 (cobalamin) : Appetite; bone marrow & red blood cell formation; metabolism of carbohydrates, fats & proteins; nervous system; G-I tract; cell longevity; prevents anemia; nucleic acid formation (Sorbitol helps absorption; needs intrinsic factor) fights infection; prevents constipation. Sources : Beef liver, algae, canned tuna, eggs, cottage cheese, milk, bee pollen

- Vitamin B15 (pangamic acid) : Cell respiration; cell lifespan; metabolism of protein, fat & sugar; glandular system; nervous system; protects liver; detoxifies; increases oxygen utilization; steroid level in blood Sources : Brewer's yeast, brown rice, rare meat, sunflower seeds, whole grains, liver.
