Yes, peroxide is cheap, especially if you buy it in 13 gallon drums.
The recommendation for 8 oz of 35% is for the standard 40 gallon tub.

Dear Hal,
You can use the drug store variety H2O2 if you need to. You use
so little, I doubt it could hurt you.
To make 3% from 35%, put one ounce of 35% in a glass bottle.
Add 11 ounces of distilled water. Voila! 3%.
You can certainly use the drug store variety in your tub if you can't get
the 35%.
Use 88 ounces of drugstore H2O2 to equal 8 ounces of 35%.
